One important task, during the next 2 or 3 months of quarantine, will be maintaining a proper diet. We need tasty dishes, using healthy ingredients, that will be available fresh - or can be purchased in quantity, then stored, during the quarantine.
As quarantine continues, some foods may become hard to find in stores. Also, should one become a victim of the disease, easy to cook food will be necessary.
One staple, that I depend upon when I get the seasonal flu, is white rice. Given enough vegetables to provide flavouring, white rice is economical, effective, and healthy.
One of the side effects of the normal seasonal flu - which each of us will be praying that we have, as the CoronaVirus induced fever takes over - is depletion of food in the stomach. As the stomach empties, nausea develops - and nausea discourages eating, which increases the effect of the nausea.
The worse the infection, the less you eat, the weaker you become - and the more susceptible to nausea. This is a circular effect, that ends only when your body finally burns up the infection. To some victims, this is considered the worst effect of the flu.
White rice is sticky, and clings to your stomach lining, inhibiting nausea. If you can force white rice down, even with lack of appetite and nausea, you have a better chance of surviving. And with nutritious food, you may recover faster.
Along with vegetables - which may or may not be available as the quarantine continues - herbs and spices help provide flavour, stimulate appetite, and may provide active resistance to the infection. There are 5 spices, known for improving health, that may be useful in surviving the quarantine period - and possibly, the Corona Virus itself.
Starting with generous amounts of garlic and ginger, I added curry powder, tumeric, and white rice - and developed what I call "CoronaVirus Rice". Garlic, ginger, and onion, are each available in dried and powder forms, for use when fresh versions are not available.
White rice, seemingly bland and rather nasty to some, is a staple in many countries - and may be key to surviving the next 2 to 3 months. Adding flavour (as available and desired) may increase appetite.
